The Mid-Continent Tower was originally a 16-story structure, completed in 1918, and 66 years later, a 36-story addition was erected, with 20 stories cantilevered over the top of the original building so flawlessly that — even though it's a separate building — it is considered part of the original structure. The resulting tower is capped by its iconic copper roof, which has patinaed to a pale green over the years.
